Homeowners Insurance
It's important to have an insurance representative you trust to thoroughly explain and recommend the proper coverages for your home. Often you can get a discount if your homeowners and auto insurance are through the same company. An important thing to remember is to ask your agent about adding an endorsement to your homeowners policy to cover things such as jewelry, sporting equipment and business items, as they may not be covered under the base policy. Also ask about sewer backup and sump pump overflow water damage coverage as it may not be covered unless an endorsement is added to your policy. The following is a general description of coverages on a homeowners policy:
Dwelling protection covers damage to your home from a covered loss, such as a fire or lightning.
Contents protection covers losses to your personal property such as clothing and furniture.
Additional Living Expenses protection pays for reasonable living expenses for your standard of living if your home is uninhabitable due to a covered home loss.
Family Liability protection covers you if you're found liable for a person's injury or damage to their property other than an auto accident.
